Ongoing projects:

ICH Edu North – living musical heritage (2026–2028)

The project with eight Finnish and Swedish partner organizations strengthens the role of musical intangible cultural heritage in the Interreg Aurora region covering northern Finland, Sweden and Norway. In the work packages of the project, a map application of the region's musical cultural heritage and ways to utilize the region's music archives are developed in community-based way, teaching and training materials are produced, cultural heritage entrepreneurship is developed, and an open online course on musical cultural heritage known as a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is built. Sharing Cultural Spaces – Envisioning future (2025–2027)

The project is being implemented by the Finnish Folk Music Institute (lead partner), the Seto Institute (Estonia), and the Leader LAG Darisim pasi! (Latvia), each with their own sub-project. The project aims to develop the utilization of cultural heritage to support the vitality of the regions by organizing cultural heritage camps for young people in the participating countries in the international joint action part of the project (all partners) and developing the regional impact of the Finnish Folk Instrument Museum in the local part of the project in Kaustinen region (Finnish Folk Music Institute). The project aims to increase the commitment of young people participating in the project to their own cultural heritage, strengthen the image of the region's cultural heritage, and support cultural services and cultural tourism. Culture Goal 2030 (2025–2026)

The global Culture Goal 2030 campaign aims to have a separate culture goal in the UN's post-2030 sustainable development agenda. The aim of the project is to disseminate information about the Goal and cultural sustainability in Finland and the Nordic countries and to involve a wide range of actors from different cultural sectors in the campaign. In addition to the Folk Music Institute, the project includes Kulta ry., the Finnish national campaign coordinator, and John Crowley of the PHGD Group, an expert consultant who is providing research data for the project. The Digital Dimension of the Network of UNESCO Cultural Spaces

(Digit ICH, 2024–2027)

The main objective of the project is to promote the training of adult educators and heritage practitioners working with intangible cultural heritage and to develop innovative digital solutions for the protection and presentation of intangible cultural heritage. The project involves partners from nine countries: Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Italy, Latvia, North Macedonia, Portugal and Slovakia. Funding: EU/Erasmus+. See main partner's project page.
