Rauno Nieminen has updated his pioneering book on jouhikko, bowed lyre, sold out almost immediately after its publication 2007. The new edition has renewed English translation, and readability of notations of all 98 known traditional jouhikko tunes has been improved. The accompanying cd includes 46 historical jouhikko recordings.
The Bowed Lyre provides information on the history of the bowed lyre, offers an introduction to playing tehcnique, advice on maintenance of the instrument and an overview of its contemporary use.
